Stella Star of the Month: Michelle Collins

Every month, Stella Connect recognizes one of our outstanding team members for raising the bar in their role. This month we’re commending Michelle Collins, one of our Senior Client Success Managers, for the incredible work she’s done to support our clients during this unprecedented time. Michelle is a true partner to her clients and for many, seen as an extension of their team. Michelle is also an active member of Stella Connect’s D&I Task Force where she partners with others in the organization to work on diversity and inclusion initiatives and leads Stella Connect’s Book Club. Michelle shared more about her experience at Stella and how she’s earned the accolade of one of Stella’s most organized team members!


What’s your favorite part about your job?

I love working with so many different types of businesses. Some of my clients are companies I’ve admired for years, or brands I’m a loyal customer of, so it’s really cool to get to work alongside them and feel like part of their team. I’m also lucky to get the opportunity to visit many of our client’s offices in-person. There’s nothing better than finally getting to meet your partners face to face, spending the day in their office, and getting to socialize and explore their city with them after a day of meetings!


What Stella Connect core value resonates the most with you?

“One Team, One Mission”. Stella has done a great job of creating a blameless environment and I feel like we handle all challenges as a team. Whenever I go to my boss (John Ernsberger!) with an issue, he never responds with, “Okay, what are you going to do to fix this?”. I’m always met with the sentiment of, “Okay, what are we going to do to fix this?”.


Our co-founder, John Ernsberger, called you one of the most organized people he’s ever worked with. What’s your secret?

For me, it’s all about living by to-do lists and using the ‘flag’ feature on emails.

I’m big on using Trello to track my daily to-do’s tasks, as well as longer term projects I’m working on. The satisfaction of moving a card from your ‘to-do’ list to your ’completed’ list is unmatched!

I also use Apple Mail, which I feel has a better threading function, to manage my emails, rather than the Gmail interface. I make sure to immediately flag every email I receive that requires a response from me—I find this helps me make sure emails don’t get lost in the shuffle of running from meeting to meeting during the day.


We know you’re an avid reader! Not only do you lead Stella Connect’s Book Club you’ve also read 25 books and counting this year. Do you have a favorite book you’ve read recently?

Funnily enough, Stella actually re-sparked my love for reading! When I joined the team about 3 years ago, I was probably reading two books a year total. My first month here, I joined the Stella Book Club and it inspired me to pick up the hobby and I haven’t stopped since!

This year, my two favorite fiction books have been ‘The Nightingale’ and ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’. I’m on a journey to finish 52 books this year, so I’m about halfway there at this point.

The Stella Book Club is awesome because it gives folks the chance to meet once a month and bond over interesting conversations outside of our day-to-day roles. This summer, we’re focusing on reading anti-racism books—I’m grateful that I work with colleagues who choose to dedicate their time to important conversations like this and that Stella encourages this dialogue.
